Our first major snowstorm has swept through New England, leaving about 9 inches of snow here in Rehoboth. With snow piling up and temperatures dropping, it’s a good time to double-check whether you’re prepared for the winter season.
The CDC has some great tips on being ready for winter: Be Prepared to Stay Safe and Healthy in Winter – including how to create winter emergency kits for your car and home.
Car Emergency Kit
For your car, make sure to keep these items handy:
- cell phone, portable charger, and extra batteries;
- blankets;
- food and water;
- booster cables, flares, tire pump, and a bag of sand or cat litter (for traction);
- compass and maps;
- flashlight, battery-powered radio, and extra batteries;
- first-aid kit; and
- plastic bags (for sanitation).
Storm-Related Emergency Kit
At home, be prepared for weather-related emergencies with:
- battery-operated devices, such as a flashlight, a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Weather Radio, and lamps;
- extra batteries;
- first-aid kit and extra medicine;
- baby items; and
- cat litter or sand for icy walkways.
Have questions about what might be helpful in your first aid kit, to make sure your family’s special medical needs are covered? Ask one of our pharmacists.
And don’t forget, Anawan Pharmacy has most of these items available in-stock for your convenience.
